Grundy Center Low-and-Moderate Income Set Aside Plan

City of Grundy Center Announces Homeowner Repair Assistance Program

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRUNDY CENTER, IOWA – The City of Grundy Center is introducing a new Homeowner Repair Program designed to help eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners make necessary repairs and improvements to their homes. The program will provide financial assistance to qualifying residents while helping preserve the community’s existing housing stock.

The program will be funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) low- and moderate-income housing set-aside funds. The city has partnered with the Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments (INRCOG) to assist with program development, administration, and applicant income verification.

Eligible homeowners may receive up to $15,000 in assistance for necessary home repairs. Qualifying improvements may include:

  • Roof repair or replacement
  • Furnace, air conditioning, and water heater replacement
  • Plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Window, door, and siding improvements
  • Accessibility improvements, including ramps
  • Insulation, water line repairs, and other eligible health and safety improvements

To qualify, applicants must own and occupy a single-family home within Grundy Center city limits, meet established household income requirements, and be current on property taxes and city utility bills. Eligible projects must have a minimum estimated cost of $1,500.

Assistance will be provided as a five-year forgivable loan, meaning homeowners who maintain ownership of their property for five years following project completion will not be required to repay the assistance. Homeowners who sell or transfer ownership before the five-year period ends may be required to repay a portion of the award.

The program is intended to help residents address costly repairs that may otherwise be delayed due to financial constraints. By investing in existing homes, the City hopes to improve housing conditions, support neighborhood stability, and preserve affordable housing opportunities for current and future residents.

Residents interested in learning more about the Homeowner Repair Program or obtaining an application are encouraged to contact the City of Grundy Center for an application or download from their website.
